Manager, Application Development and Support

The Manager, Application Development and Support owns the support of the company’s standard manufacturing-related systems. These systems include, but are not limited to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, product data management (PDM) systems, engineering systems, Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems, quality and gage tracking systems, equipment maintenance management systems, vendor managed inventory (VMI) systems, electronic data interchange (EDI) systems and any other manufacturing related systems.
This position also leads the development and support of customized systems, including auxiliary manufacturing tools, reporting, and Business Intelligence applications.


  • Assist the IT Senior Leadership Team in the development of organizational-wide strategic plans for the selection and support of standardized manufacturing systems to all the organization’s businesses
  •  Provide Level 3 support for the effective use of standard applications
  •  Manage and provide direction to development analysts in support of programming, implementation, and database tasks
  •  Support manufacturing application implementations at all NN facilities
  •  Manage software developers responsible for enhancing, maintaining, and supporting internally developed applications and databases
  •  Manage external development teams contracted to support standard application implementations
  •  Directly manage the configuration and operational management of both on-premises and hosted/cloud applications
    •    Manage application hosting relationships, including day-to-day operational support
    •    Monitor and report on operational effectiveness
    •    Participate in negotiations
    •    Configure production systems for effective use by NN operations
  • Work directly with the Manager, IT Infrastructure to determine hardware and networking requirements relating to the implementation of manufacturing solutions
    •    Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement of the IT infrastructure to support new or existing manufacturing systems
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for enhancement initiatives for manufacturing-related systems
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the Chief Information Officer with respect to resource and personnel requirements
  • Develop, maintain, and support custom programming and databases

  • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related business field preferred
  • Minimum of seven years’ operational experience in Information Technology with a significant range of experience with respect to manufacturing systems
  • Experience supporting ERP system implementations and operations
  • Experience in effectively managing small teams
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Must be team oriented and have excellent collaboration skills
  • Interpersonal skills to develop and manage relationships with internal customers and present ideas and proposals in written and oral form.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Works effectively with peers and customers across multiple disciplines, locations, and levels
  • Detailed-oriented and able to multi-task
  • The ability to work with the business teams to understand problems and translate these requirements into functional solutions producing specifications that include, process flows, data flows, UI designs, business rule definitions and use case scenarios
  • Must be knowledgeable of all aspects of the SDLC policy
  • Proficiency in generally used programming languages
  • Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices
  • Extensive relational database and operating systems experience with Oracle and/or Progress
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
