Payroll Supervisor

SUMMARY:
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for performing all aspects of the payroll function ensuring timely, accurate and effective processing of payroll disbursements for all employees in compliance with federal, state and local tax regulations and requirements, as well as, internal policies and procedures.  The Payroll Supervisor reports directly to the Corporate Shared Services Manager.   
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 
  • Ensure proper payment of employees in a multi-state environment on a bi-weekly basis
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as company’s payroll and benefit policies and procedures
  • Partner with Human Resources and Treasury department to ensure positive collaboration efforts to provide efficient company-wide payroll operations
  • Oversee the preparation and taxation of off-cycle payrolls and special payroll runs in the ADP system
  • Ability and foresight to recognize and respond to situations that require complete confidentiality
  • Interface with internal and external individuals, departments and agencies to answer questions, resolve issues, provide required reports, obtain and share information related to payroll or payroll procedures
  • Review monthly payroll journal entries and account reconciliations, provide research and analysis as necessary with Treasury department
  • Balance benefit invoices to employee deductions
  • Ensure data feeds between ADP and vendors are accurate
  • Execute various secure data feeds to off-site benefits and third-party administration vendors for 401(k) and benefit providers
  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Manage payroll related (in house) responsibilities including (but not limited to) garnishments, company payroll policies/procedures, new hire and personnel changes, reporting, end of year (W2) processing and reporting, etc.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
 
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, Business or a related field  
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll or closely related experience
  • Prior experience partnering with a major payroll provider; ADP experience preferred
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of multi-state payrolls as well as knowledge of federal, state and local labor laws, employee benefit plans and payroll taxes
  • Knowledge of HRIS system is a plus
  • Must be able and willing to travel to NN sites as necessary

  • Strong technical, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent understanding of payroll processes, systems and practices
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Works effectively with peers and customers across multiple disciplines, locations, and levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Advanced Excel and Pivot Tables, PowerPoint, Word)
 
CERTIFICATION/TRAINING:
  • Certified Payroll Professional certification, a plus
