SUMMARY:
The Indirect Tax Manager is a key member of the Tax team and will liaison with the Finance team on a regular basis.  This position is responsible for managing all aspects of indirect tax (sales & use tax, property tax, and VAT) including controversy work.  This includes identifying, designing, and implementing process improvements for effective reporting (compliance) and planning.
This position will enable the Tax Department to effectively respond to the growing number of tax compliance responsibilities commensurate with recent U.S. tax reform, acquisitions and process improvements.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage the indirect tax return and exemption compliance function is accordance with leading principles in the industry to optimize minimal scrutiny and audit assessments from jurisdictional reviews of processes and filings.
• Manage tax registrations for all US legal entities including review of compliance where established nexus exists.
• Establish strong and efficient centralized indirect tax compliance processes for NN group companies.
• Maintain complete and accurate indirect tax policies and procedures.
• Communicate changes and /or enhancements to indirect tax practices and procedures that may have a business impact to US location personnel, as appropriate.
• Provide training sessions to location personnel on sales tax issues affecting day-to-day business operations to ensure proper processing and compliance to indirect tax policies.
• Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
• Ensure all returns are filed and paid by due date – electronically where possible.
• Research and analysis of state and local tax laws to determine the taxability of products and services sold and utilized by NN group companies.
• Reconcile all indirect tax general ledger accounts on a monthly-basis.
• Manage tax controversy process for state and local tax audits, including review and resolution of state tax notices.
• Coordinate integration of newly acquired businesses into indirect tax processes, as required.
 
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Accounting
• CPA designation
• Eight to ten (8-10) years of indirect tax experience
 
Desired:
• Combination of public accounting and industry experience
 
 Skills/Competencies:
• Up-to-date on current sales and use tax practices and technical issues
• Excellent knowledge of sales and use taxes in the U.S. as well as knowledge of global VAT systems
• Strong project management and organization skills
• Working experience in multi-national environments
• Experience utilizing tax technology
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Strong tax research skills including writing, business analysis, and communication skills
• Ability to embrace change and be flexible to changing business needs
• Ability to use own judgement and initiative in problem solving
• Ability to interact and team with professionals in various functional areas to resolve complex tax issues throughout the organization.
