Communications Manager

The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing an effective all-company internal communications program. The position develops, manages and coordinates written, digital, visual and interpersonal communications that inform, engage and help motivate employees at all levels of the organization. Occasional travel is required for this role.  The position reports to the Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer, and interfaces with senior leadership at the corporate, business and plant levels.
Directly or through subordinate managers and staff, this role is responsible for the following:
  • Develops and implements strategic communications plan that reflects the company’s goals, direction, key themes, successes and challenges
  • Recommends, utilizes effective communications vehicles that address both the company’s priorities and the information needs of employees throughout the organization
  • Helps develop NN’s reputation and brand as a company with high ethical standards that produces precise, reliable products that benefit our customers, company, community and our people
  • Provides clear, consistent messages through a range of interpersonal, electronic and print vehicles
  • Informs employees regarding news about the company, providing context and perspective
  • Creates, edits and approves internal company communications and news articles; Coaches other contributors and communications leaders
  • Identifies and utilizes social media channels to broadly and effectively communicate company news
  • Advises senior leaders and managers on effective communications practices, programs and communications vehicles
  • Works cross-functionally with corporate, business and plant teams to develop and implement communications plans and materials
  • Establishes metrics to measure communications program effectiveness in concert with internal customers
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications or Public Relations
  • Minimum of seven years professional experience, the majority in internal communications
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with corporate, business and plant teams
  • Proficient in working with organizations and leaders on communications programs, issues and tactics
  • Strong writing, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated skills in the effective use of various social media channels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Master’s degree in Communications or Public Relations
  • Experience in corporate setting, preferably with a manufacturing focus
  • Financial knowledge and business acumen
  • Strong writer with equally solid verbal, presentation and organizational skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with high professional standards
  • Solid print, digital and graphic abilities
  • Effective relationships within various levels of an organization
  • Goal and strategic focused, effectively prioritizes competing projects
  • Trusted adviser, counselor in addressing communications issues and programs
