Payroll Specialist

SUMMARY:
 
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the processing of high volume, multi-state payroll in an accurate and efficient manner.  This role serves as a point of contact for HR inquiries while ensuring strict confidentiality and maintaining good customer relations, and develops and follows procedures to complete transactions.  The Payroll Specialist will report to the Payroll Manager.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Verify employee time and pay data submitted for accuracy and completeness; returns questions/issues to HR for review and resubmission
  • Enter new employee data and update existing employee data in ADP
  • Answer payroll and special pay allowance questions
  • Enter and process garnishments imposed by federal or state entities
  • Collect and report taxable income, gross-up, and other additional earnings data as required
  • Assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll reports and annual processing of W-2s
  • Meet all applicable deadlines for payroll processing
  • Identify gaps in controls; assist in resolution of issues identified
  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processing; assist in implementation of solutions
  • Provide backup coverage for other payroll roles, as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
 
Required:
  • High school diploma and minimum of two years’ payroll experience
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Familiar with workflow and document imaging tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and payroll/timekeeping software applications
 
Desired:
  • Experience with ADP payroll processing system highly desirable
  • Shared service center experience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills across all levels in the organization
  • Must possess strong customer service skills
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong detail orientation and accuracy level
